Discipline, Grievance and Dismissal
Course Objectives:
The objective of this workshop is to provide managers at all levels with a overview in essential employment law, how to effectively manage staff performance, capability, disciplinaries and grievances in line with legislation and dismiss fairly.

- The employment relationship and the interplay between contractual rights, statutory rights and common law
- Key legislation that impacts on handling discipline and grievance in the workplace and the role of ACAS
- The rights of the employee in the disciplinary and grievance process
- Managing absence, ill-health and poor performance in a positive manner within the legal framework
- Levels of Disciplinary action and timescales involved
- Minor/Gross misconduct and types of dismissal
- How to conduct fair and objective investigations relating to disciplinary and grievance issues, interviewing witnesses and taking statements
- Carrying out effective disciplinary / grievance hearings using a range of key communication and interpersonal skills
- Effective questioning techniques

- Verbal communication – using the right words and phrases
- Dealing with emotions and difficult situations
- Ensuring a fair and lawful appeal process
